Vogel: Tiny Homes Debacle Shows Davis’s Incompetence

Brenton Davis failed to submit required plans for tiny homes intended to house homeless individuals, ignoring Pennsylvania’s building codes in another blatant display of incompetence and waste.

ERIE, PA – Christina Vogel, Democratic nominee for Erie County Executive, slammed Brenton Davis for the dysfunction and chaos surrounding 25 tiny homes intended to house Erie County’s most vulnerable. The units cannot be occupied because they fail to meet Pennsylvania’s building codes.

“This is yet another example of Brenton Davis’s dysfunctional leadership. His failure to obtain even simple building permits is astounding for someone who claims a background in construction”, said Vogel

Despite frequently touting his construction experience, Davis never submitted a plan for review to the City of Erie, a basic requirement for any building project, and chose to ignore state building code standards. As a result, the homes on East 16th Street have sat vacant for months, unfit for habitation.

“Any responsible builder in Pennsylvania knows you cannot just skip the permitting process and ignore the building code because you’re a politician ,” Vogel said. “Brenton Davis should know this better than anyone, yet taxpayers are stuck with the bill for structures no one can live in. This is a clear display of incompetence.”

City officials have confirmed that the county failed to submit the required plans for review.

“This is reckless, wasteful mismanagement,” Vogel added. “Taxpayer dollars should be spent on projects that are safe, legal, and built to serve the public. As County Executive, I will focus on delivering results that actually work for the people of Erie County, not political stunts.”
